I liked the Warden hero and her blink ability because it brought into play some new elements. For example, the Night Elves have the Warden hero along with the Mountain Giant and Faerie Dragon units.
Once you lose a hero in war3 it is difficult to come back, it is the most important “chess” piece you have.Each of the four races (Orcs, Humans, Undead, Night Elves) has been given a new hero along with two new units. In other rts games the player is considered to be the higher power which controls the army (like a person playing chess) but in warcraft 3 the player is put in action in the heroes shoes. Looking at these factors we can now compare warcraft 3 to other rts games to see how it is different for the player. Other rts games with no heroes, such as Starcraft, the only thing you must rely on is your army. Since every hero has its own unique set of spells and attributes the player must play each hero differently and use the heroes strengths to win the battle. The ultimate is the strongest move your hero will have but not necessarily the most useful depending on the situation. The ultimate can be achieved once your hero has reached level 6. This creates another goal for you to work for while playing.Įvery hero in the game has a 3 different normal spells which can be upgraded 3 times each and also an ultimate. Items can either be bought are they are dropped by creeps which you kill. Having the option to carry items which increase your hero attributes or strengthen your whole army is also a different approach to rts games. In war3 you must run around collecting items and getting stronger while you are also attacking your opponent. This changes the gameplay because in normal rts games you sit around and either wait to be attacked or you are the one who is the first to attack, and the game continues back and forth until someone loses. In the game their are neutral enemies on the map which are called creeps, these are easy targets to gain experience with your hero. This is very important because you want to start levelling up your hero right away. With this building you can train your hero and have it be one of your first units that you use. Usually in a multiplayer game of warcraft 3 one of the first buildings you build is the hero alter. All of these factors is what differs the warcraft 3 gameplay from other real time strategy games. Heroes in this game are much stronger than normal units, are able to buy/sell/carry items which can change the battle in an instant, can gain experience by killing, level up to gain higher attributes and new spells.
Each race has 4 unique heroes that the player can choose as well as a ‘Tavern’ on many maps where players can walk to and pick a neutral hero (heroes that are available for any race). The four main races are: Orc, Human, Nightelf, and Undead. Warcraft 3 frozen throne has four playable races and two other races that can only be played through the campaign. This gives Warcraft 3 a unique style of gameplay where the options are endless. Warcraft 3 differs from any other real-time strategy games because of the heroes in it. Both games were developed by Blizzard entertainment, adding new units, heroes, maps and much more with the expansion. One year later the expansion, Frozen Throne, was released on July 1st, 2003. Warcraft 3 Reign of chaos was released on July 3rd, 2002.
